Sometimes I need to be reminded of what can offer calm or bring joy during difficult times, even momentarily.
It helps to keep this list close at hand.

Being Creative:
- Reading a poem, or re-reading a book that has inspired me
- Writing. Playing with photography or art in simple, unpressured ways
- Sharing ideas and images of beauty and life with others
- Sending a note to a friend
- Making homemade postcards to my grandkids
Getting out
- Being outside, even in the cold
- Spending even a few minutes in the light
- Taking an ‘awe walk’, watching for small glimmers of delight
- Wandering through a library or bookstore
- Using the Merlin Bird ID app to identify birds, so much fun
Going in
- Having an afternoon nap, no permission needed
- Watching something nourishing, perhaps a British mystery
- Listening to a favourite podcast
- Doing a guided meditation or yoga nidra
You might have your own list, small things that restore you. I’d love to hear what’s on it.
